Monthly Tutoring Reports

If you are an active tutor, please remember to turn in your Monthly Tutoring Report, which is due on the 5th of each month.  If you have done so already, thank you!  You can submit these hours by email, mail, fax, or phone.  Call the office if you have questions about reporting your tutoring hours.

Thank You!

Our tutors don't just provide instruction to students, they also help support the organization! Here are two tutors who went above and beyond:

Pam Stinnett, a Reading Connections volunteer tutor, wrote a grant for the Reading Connections program. Thanks to her hard work, Reading Connections received $500 from CVS.

Carole McFee, also a tutor applied for a grant through her company VF, and Reading Connections was awarded $1,000!

Tutors can also help raise funds through another special offer. Through March 29, 2008, SunTrust will donate $100 to any charity a client chooses when they open a new SunTrust checking account.

Reading Connections Site Visit

The Reading Connections staff and Board of Directors are working hard to raise awareness in the Guilford County community about adult illiteracy and the outstanding work our tutors and students do to combat this problem. We will be holding one hour site visits at least once a month to introduce community members to Reading Connections. We encourage you to invite people that you know to attend a site visit on either Tuesday, January 12 from 8:00-9:00 am or on Tuesday, January 19 th from 11:00 am – noon. Both will be held in the 5 th floor conference room of the Self-Help Building at 122 N. Elm Street in Greensboro. Please contact Karen Langston at klangston@readingconnections.org if you have friends that are interested in attending.

New Tutor Training

Reading Connections has over 50 students waiting to be matched with tutors. We have tutor trainings each month to help meet this need. We need to fill these trainings to capacity! Tell friends, family, co-workers, members of your book club, social group, or religious organization, and anyone else you think would be a great tutor about these trainings. New volunteers should register in advance by calling 230-2223 or emailing shumpal@readingconnections.org .

February Tutor Training

This training will be held in Greensboro in the 8th floor conference room of the Self-Help Building which is located at 122 N. Elm Street at the corner of Elm and Friendly in downtown Greensboro . This training will be held during the day time so it is condensed to an orientation and two longer sessions.

Orientation: Thursday, February 14th from 9:00 – 10:00 am
Session 1: Tuesday, February 19th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Session 2: Friday, February 22nd from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

New Classes

The start of the New Year means that new classes are starting for students in both Greensboro and High Point. We will have computer skills, GED preparation, ESL conversation, civics, and citizenship classes this spring. Your student can continue to meet with you and attend classes if he or she has the time. Contact either the Greensboro or High Point office if you have questions about these classes. The classes are also listed on the calendar at the Reading Connections website at www.readingconnections.org .

We are always interested in your feedback. Do you have questions or concerns? Please contact the office. Sincerely, Reading Connections Staff
