Student Success Stories

Our students continue to inspire us. Here are some examples of our students' outstanding successes:

Manan:

"First of all I would like to tell you that the program English for All was an enjoyable and one for me and my family especially my daughter in second grade she was very excited every time we work on the program.

As I said before, I have lived here in America for eight years, the amount of useful information I learned from the program was over my expectations.

Honestly, after knowing about the different topics tucked in the program, I became more aware of my rights when interacting with the outer society. Before taking the program I was ignorant about the types of sexual harassment, what is my right when I want to rent an apartment, what to do if the apartment owner was not fair to me in certain aspects and where to go, and to whom I have to file my complaint. These are some of many. I also learned the correct pronunciations of many words that I used to pronounce wrong.

I am very grateful for those who worked hard to make my life easier and open my eyes teached me many things. Finally, to tell the truth if I knew things like how easy it is to finish my study or career here in America by transfering the necessary data and sitting for the required exam, who knows, maybe my life would have changed by now."

Edith: (from her tutor, Mary)

“Last year Edith and I completed 36 TSR [Texas Scottish Rite reading video] lessons. Reading Connections suggested that we start over. On Sept 30th, we started with #1. I needed some books at Edith's level, which you also provided.

This Thanksgiving, Edith gathered her children around her and told them, 'I never read you a story, but today I'm going to read you a story.' She read a few chapters of Tuck Dam to the family of children and grandchildren. Her granddaughter helped her when she needed help. They all clapped when she stopped!

This TSR program, along with short vowel easy readers, helped break through the barriers of dyslexia, and Edith and I highly recommend them!”

For more information on how you and your student can get started with this program, please contact Micah at 230-2223 or mguindon@readingconnections.org.

Hyun:

Hyun has been working with her tutor Katie for a little over a year now and we are so pleased to announce this month that Hyun passed her citizenship interview! Her oath ceremony will take place this month.

Katie and Hyun used the materials provided from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services available at Reading Connections. You can also find many helpful resources at www.uscis.gov under the “Education & Resources” tab. If you would like assistance working with your student to pass the Citizenship test, please contact Rhiannon at 230-2223 or rkelly@readingconnections.org.

If you have a success story you'd like to share, please let us know. Congratulations to our students and their tutors for their outstanding accomplishments!

Monthly Tutoring Reports

If you are an active tutor, please remember to turn in your Monthly Tutoring Report, which is due on the 5th of each month.  If you have done so already, thank you!  You can submit these hours by email, mail, fax, or phone.

Monthly tutor reports are very important for keeping track of student instruction. Our data tracking system requires that we enter hours at least once every 90 days, or it lists a student as inactive. Please be sure to submit your hours so we can keep our data tracking current.

Call the office if you have questions about reporting your tutoring hours.
