Volunteer ESOL Tutor Needed!

Last year Reading Connections was pleased to offer English classes to students from the Dega Alliance Church. Word got out, and the number of students has steadily increased and now we need more volunteers! The group meets every Saturday from 11:00am – 12:30pm and the church is located on Brame Rd. in Greensboro. If you have questions or are interested, please contact Rhiannon at rkelly@readingconnections.org or 336-230-2223.

Video-based Course for Students and Tutors

A few years ago Reading Connections purchased a video-based program (Texas Scottish Rite Reading Program) for beginning learners. Research showed that adult learners who participated in this class would show tremendous progress. Indeed, we saw those results come to life with our students. We would now like to offer this class for tutors to use with their students in weekly sessions. If your student is at a beginning level and you want to learn more about getting started with TSR, contact Micah at mguindon@readingconnections.org or 336-230-2223.

Also, be sure to check our website for updated list of student classes at www.readingconnections.org

Monthly Tutoring Reports

If you are an active tutor, please remember to turn in your Monthly Tutoring Report, which is due on the 5th of each month.  If you have done so already, thank you!  You can submit these hours by email, mail, fax, or phone.

Monthly tutor reports are very important for keeping track of student instruction. Our data tracking system requires that we enter hours at least once every 90 days, or it lists a student as inactive. Please be sure to submit your hours so we can keep our data tracking current.

Call the office if you have questions about reporting your tutoring hours.

American Express Team Visits Reading Connections

Reading Connections offers tours of our offices three times every month to help people in our community learn more about literacy in Guilford County. A team from American Express visited in December. Wyatt, Marcia, Anita, Julie, and Robert spent an hour learning about our programs and how they could help Reading Connections improve the quality of life for our students and our community. We appreciated their enthusiastic interest and their insightful questions, and we hope to work with them in the future to transform literacy in Guilford County. American Express has been a steadfast supporter of Reading Connections for many years, and it was a treat to have representatives here to see first hand what American Express's support is doing in our community.

If you have a small group (5-10 people) that you would like to bring to a tour, please contact Marcy Ray at mray@readingconnections.org or call 230-2223. Tour dates are posted on our website, www.readingconnections.org. We can also conduct a "virtual tour" at your home or organization.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to spread the word about Reading Connections!

Wyatt Andrews, Marcia Martin, Anita Fields, Julie Harris, and Robert Powell
